SEAN SIMMONS (The Spoils) performs THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO (50th Anniversary) – THURS. 23 FEB. – The Midnight Special
In 2013, upon the shock announcement of Lou Reed’s death, Sean Simmons and his band The Spoils were asked to perform as the house band for a RRR FM Live to air tributing the late founder of the Velvet Underground in their home town of Melbourne.
It was an all star cast of guest singers featuring members of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey’s band, These Immortal Souls, Blackeyed Susans, Black Cab and more.
2 years later The Spoils themselves performed the Velvet’s stunning debut in its entirety to a sell out crowd and have decided to do it once more this year as one of rock n’ roll’s most influential debut albums turns 50.
For Sydney, Sean has decided to attempt the ambitious task of performing the album in stripped back mode completely solo for one night only at Midnight Special.
