Two of Australia’s most genuine up and coming singer-songwriters, Melbourne's Joshua Batten and Sydney's Kim Girdlestone will be joining forces for an intimate co-headline gig at The Midnight Special on Wednesday November 8th!
JOSHUA BATTEN
Joshua Batten is a modern-day troubadour, using music as his language to connect with his audience. Drawing on personal experience, his music provides both an escape and perspective in a complex world. Based in Melbourne, Joshua's personal brand of Alternative Roots Rock is characterised by passionate vocals, accomplished guitar playing, layered arrangements and insightful lyrics. His songs strive to “know thyself”, exploring genuine reflections of life’s most introspective moments, then humbly offering them up as common and universal experiences.
Joshua’s latest album, Learn To Live Again, was released in October 2022, supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. The sprawling 14-track album is an eclectic mix of songs that tell a cohesive story about the challenges and acceptance of mental health and neurodiversity, set against the backdrop of COVID-19.
In support of his latest single “Coming To Our Senses”, Joshua will embark on his first national tour, playing headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney and regional VIC alongside appearances at Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival (NSW), Fleurieu Folk Festival (SA), and Port Noarlunga Blues Festival (SA).
“An exceptionally talented musician & performer. His soulful insightful songs reflect everyday issues he shares with his audiences, connecting with them in a special way.” - Billy Pinnell (Broadcaster/Writer)
KIM GIRDLESTONE
Hailing from the heart of one of Sydney’s Southern coastal splendours, Kim Girdlestone is a truly authentic and captivating singer/songwriter. With a rich, distinct, and deeply emotive vocal style, Kim effortlessly weaves together elements of Folk, Blues, and Soul, creating a sound that is uniquely her own.

Her lyrics paint a vivid picture, alternating between the warm hues of daisy-chain yellows and the raw, heartfelt shades of battlefield blues.
Kim's magnetic stage presence and genuine artistry have deeply resonated with audiences at renowned events like the Sydney Blues & Roots Festival, Cronulla Jazz & Blues Festival and the global charity event, Every Woman Festival. Opening for acclaimed artists such as Matt Corby and Charlie A'Court, Kim consistently captivates her audiences leaving them with truly memorable experiences.
