Irish-Australian indie songwriter Sage Dwyer from Sydney is known for her work in bands Ariel and Bliss since returning to Australia from Singapore at age 16. Now 22, The Midnight Special hosts Dwyer's first solo performance as a headliner in Sydney, following her support for artist Cowboy Malfoy at the Lansdowne. Dwyer has spent years intermittently internationally recording and performing her songs; this show will be her hometown-exclusive debut.
Dwyer's evocative lyrics and commanding voice have drawn comparisons to artists like Adrienne Lenker, Sky Ferreira and Phoebe Bridgers. Her music reflects a nomadic lifestyle growing up, moving from continent to continent, and a sense of a neverending journey. Dwyer's songs imbue and embody an absorption of all the sounds, sights, and displacements of others, both human and nature; however, she does not critique these experiences through her writing but instead accepts and absorbs them.
"A speckled mirror with a crack. The song's duration places Dwyer’s states through a somnambulant walk-through, eyes open in reverie or closed in its wake." - Billy De Luca, Enta Magazine.
